Let me start off by congratulating the BMW engineers for squeezing the E36 six-cylinder engine into an almost impossibly tight spot. It is quite a remarkable packaging job, considering they did it in the early 1990s when all they had were computers with 386 processors and rudimentary 2D CAD programs. Yet their success makes it a big pain for mechanics who work on these cars—it’s a tight squeeze, and you have to remove a lot of stuff to remove the intake manifold.

Got up to the valve cover and most of the intake. I think it’s just those fuel lines that need to be disconnect

I cower in fear every time my brother in law pops the hood on his ‘08 335i.
He’s losing coolant somewhere and despite my numerous pleas for him to bring it in to be pressure tested and repaired he just keeps adding coolant and going on his way.
Normally I’d be the first guy in the family to roll up my sleeves and try to get it done but the scene under that hood makes me nope the fuck out. I’m no mechanic anyway.
I’ll keep my e38, thanks.. lol

I changed my oil on my FRS recently and I actually had to stop and appreciate how clean the engine bay was

I assisted with a belt swap on a E39 528i. It's amazing how much room they don't have. A smaller chassis would be an even bigger pain in the ass.

The accessory belt is easy, you just need the special water pump holder tool, a 32mm wrench, and a torx bit...
Never mind

I’m guessing it was an automatic? I can change belts on my E46 325 manual in about 15 minutes, no kidding.
